Birmingham, Swansea and Bristol City are all keen to beat Norwich City to the signing of Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes, Football Insider have reported.

Rhodes spent last season on loan with Norwich, scoring nine goals in 40 appearances in all competitions to help Daniel Farke's side win promotion to the Premier League as Championship title winners.

The Canaries have been linked with a move to bring Rhodes back to East-Anglia throughout the course of the transfer window, and it was recently reported by journalist Alan Nixon that the Premier League side are still hopeful of agreeing a fee for the striker, with a price of around £4million being suggested as a 'compromise figure'.

It now appears as though Norwich will face competition for Rhodes' signature, with Championship trio Birmingham, Bristol City and Swansea all reportedly targeting the striker, as they look to add to their attacking options before the close of the transfer window on Thursday.

Since joining Sheffield Wednesday from Middlesbrough in January 2017, Rhodes has made 55 appearances and scored ten goals in all competitions for The Owls.

There are just 12 months remaining on the Scotland international's contract at Hillsborough, meaning this could be Wednesday's last chance to receive a fee for the striker.

The Verdict

This looks like one that could only be decided very late in the window.

Norwich have seemingly been interested in Rhodes for much of the window and have yet to agree a fee for the striker, so it could be hard for any of these other sides to do that in just a matter of days before the window closes, particularly given the scrutiny around club spending and finances these days.

Even when any of these clubs do agree a fee, there is still the issue of Rhodes having to decide which of the potential destinations he wants to move to for the coming campaign.

While Norwich may still remain the favourites due to their Premier League status and Rhodes' familiarity with the club, the striker was not a regular starter at Carrow Road last season, and you wonder whether that may tempt him to try his look elsewhere.

You do feel that all three of these Championship outfits could do with a fresh striking option up front, and Rhodes' experience and proven ability at this level suggests that he could be a decent option for any of them.
