Liverpool will be looking to send Sheyi Ojo out on loan so the youngster can experience more first-team football.

Goal are reporting that the winger is in demand from several Championship clubs including Aston Villa and Birmingham. Were the Blues to win that race, they could expect a much more promising 2018/19 season.

Ojo’s loan spell at Fulham was promising. The 21-year old notched four goals, including winners against Barnsley and Birmingham, and two assists. Unfortunately, his season was hampered by injuries and restrictions to the number of loan players in the squad. This limited his appearances particularly in the second half of the season. Nonetheless, he showed enough attacking verve to suggest he could play an influential role in a less competitive squad.

Birmingham struggled for goals last season. They scored the joint fewest goals (38) of any Championship side alongside relegated Burton Albion. This was the result of a slow and uninspired front line. Without a change of personnel up front, it is hard to see Birmingham avoiding relegation next season.

Ojo alone would not be enough to raise the Blues out of their current slump. Garry Monk will be well aware of the need to secure an out-and-out striker. However, for strikers to prosper, they need strong support. Ojo creates space for strikers through his penchant for dribbling (3.7 dribbles per 90 minutes last season) and is a handful for most defences. Consequently, competition for his signature will be fierce. If Birmingham win the race, their fans can look forward to next season a little bit more.
