Birmingham City are set to rival Blackburn Rovers to the signing of Stoke City defender Andy Wilkinson, according to the Stoke Sentinel.
The 30-year-old is seemingly not in the first-team plans of Stoke City boss Mark Hughes, with him set to leave the Potters in the summer.
The right-back has spent this season on loan at Championship strugglers Millwall, where he has gone on to appear just nine times for the London club.
Wilkinson’s contract at the Britannia Stadium expires in the summer, thus meaning the experienced defender could leave the club on a free transfer.
The defender’s experience could prove vital to a number of Championship clubs, and it seems that Gary Rowett’s Birmingham City and Gary Bowyer’s Blackburn Rovers are leading the chase to land the player.
The defender has been at Stoke City since 1998 and has always seemed to be a squad player rather than a first-team starter.
Wilkinson has enjoyed loan spells at Telford United, Partick Thistle, Shrewsbury Town, Blackpool and most recently Millwall.
