Birmingham City are reportedly interested in Palermo's George Puscas, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The Blues are in need of a goalscorer following the sale of Che Adams to Southampton, and the Romanian could be available as Palermo's financial difficulties meant they failed to register for the new Serie B season and therefore could be demoted.

Birmingham have faced financial problems too, leading to a points deduction last season, but the sale of Adams could fund some new additions, as the club received £15m for the 22-year-old.

Puscas has recently garnered a lot of attention due to his performances at the European Under-21 Championship, scoring four goals in four games for Romania as they reached the semi-final.

The 23-year-old scored nine goals in 33 games for Palermo last season, and prior to that had spells in Serie A with Benevento and Inter Milan, so he would arrive with a decent pedigree.

The Verdict

This is an interesting move from Birmingham, and certainly an exciting alternative to other targets they may have. He is young and has a point to prove, but his success will largely depend on how he adapts to the English game.

The Championship can be unforgiven to young players and if he fails to hit the ground running he could find it difficult to settle and start scoring regularly.

He has big boots to fill if he is to be the main replacement for Adams, but he should work well with Lukas Jutkiewicz, and is certainly the instinctive poacher type player that The Blues need.
