Championship side Birmingham City are set to be frustrated in the transfer window once again, as their pursuit of Lazio’s Ravel Morrison appears to be over according to manager Harry Redknapp via The Birmingham Mail.

The 24-year-old moved to the Italian giants back in 2015 following a three-year stint at West Ham, but has struggled to make any sort of meaningful impact during his time at the Serie A outfit.

The Englishman, who began his career at Manchester United, has managed just eight first team appearances for Lazio since his move there two years ago, and failed to make a single appearance last season before being shipped out on loan to Championship side Queens Park Rangers in January.

And, with his future at the Italian side far from certain, there have been reports that Birmingham, with whom Morrison trained for a few weeks over the summer, were looking to strike a deal with Lazio for the 24-year-old’s services.

Yet, the Serie A club have rejected Birmingham’s loan offer, and manager Redknapp reckons that that ‘probably’ could be that in terms of a deal for the former West Ham man, adding: ‘We made an offer to take Ravel to his club but they didn’t accept it.

‘I like him, I wish him well. He’s a good lad.’

These comments are sure to intrigue Birmingham fans, who have seen 70-year-old Redknapp add just four players to the squad at St Andrew’s this summer, yet have been linked with a whole host of exciting talent in a bid to strengthen the side.

The Blues earlier this week saw a deal for Ogeyni Onazi fall through after the Nigeria star failed to obtain a work permit, and Redknapp is likely to become increasingly frustrated with more bad news on the transfer front, this time in terms of Morrison.

The Verdict: There’s little doubting Ravel Morrison’s quality and ability on the football field, it’s off the pitch where questions have been asked.

Yet that didn’t seem to faze Harry Redknapp and Birmingham, who made an offer to bring the 24-year-old back to England, only for Lazio to reject their advances.

And Redknapp reckons that that could be the end of their pursuit of the midfielder, which will likely frustrate the 70-year-old even further after a summer which has seen less transfer activity than expected at St Andrew’s.

It looks like they will have to turn their attentions away from Morrison, and to other transfer targets in the last two weeks of the transfer window.
