Birmingham City ended Leeds United’s unbeaten start to the season on Saturday, with Che Adams the man doing the damage at Elland Road.

Leeds trailed inside the first half-an-hour, after Adams had fired the Blues into a two-goal lead. Ezgjan Alioski’s goal was nothing more than a consolation late on, with Adams leaving Elland Road with the headlines.

Praise for Adams was matched by criticism for Bailey Peacock-Farrell, who was at fault for the first Birmingham goal.

The Leeds goalkeeper misread Adams’ strike, with the Birmingham striker able to almost roll the ball into the middle of the goal.

Discussing Peacock-Farrell’s error with the Birmingham Mail, Adams said: “I think in the end he has tried to read me. He thought I was going to go to the far corner but I have reversed him back and caught him off guard.”

The second goal was classic Adams, with the striker managing to turn on the edge of the area before firing a shot back across Peacock-Farrell, which found the net via the post.

Adams continued: “That [the second goal] is something I work on a lot in training. I think that type of finish goes through a lot of defenders’ legs and it’s very hard to defend against.”

Birmingham will now be looking to build on their first victory of the season on Saturday, when Garry Monk’s side welcome Ipswich Town to St Andrew’s.

Leeds will be searching for a return to winning ways on Friday, however, with the Whites travelling to Hillsborough to take on Sheffield Wednesday.

The Verdict

Whilst Peacock-Farrell will be disappointed with himself, it was clever play from Adams on Saturday, with the striker reading the situation and executing his shot perfectly.

It will have been a lesson for Peacock-Farrell, who must now improve himself to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

For Adams, he will be hoping that the brace at Elland Road can kick-start his and Birmingham’s season.
