The owners of Birmingham City have promised to back their new manager Steve Cotterill when it comes to signings in the January window.

A big summer spree saw Blues make several new signings, with Jota arriving from Brentford for a club-record fee.

However, chief executive Xuandong Ren promised that Trillion Trophy Asia would continue to back their managers until they achieve their objectives.

We invested heavily in the summer and in the future we will back Steve Cotterill in the coming window in January, next summer,he told the Birmingham Mail.

If it takes more investment for us to get to the Premier League we will. If it takes a longer period of time for us to get back in there we will.”

Although, Ren acknowledged they have to follow the financial fair play rules that exist for Championship clubs.

We are not going to risk any interest of this club under any circumstances. It's going to be a sustainable football club for sure.”

The Verdict

This was the first time Birmingham fans had heard directly from someone involved with the club's hierarchy and they'll have enjoyed what was said.

Harry Redknapp was considerably backed in August and Blues have assembled a very talented squad.

By January, Steve Cotterill will have clearly identified what needs improving and it appears the board are prepared to back him with the required funds.
