Birmingham City loan signing Sam Gallagher has admitted the turbulent start to his Blues career has been difficult but believes things will improve under Steve Cotterill.

The big striker was chased by several club's in pre-season but eventually moved to the blue side of Birmingham under manager Harry Redknapp. However, as we know, the ex-Spurs boss has since departed and Gallagher revealed it did shock the players.

I don't think any club expects this sort of change this early on in a season. None of us were expecting it,” he told the official site.

Yet, the Southampton man remains positive for the season ahead and feels players need time given the many new faces that have arrived at St. Andrew's.

It takes players different times to adapt as well. I feel every week that goes past we are getting closer as a team and knowing each other better and better. And the same way the coaches are getting to know us better as well.”

Trying to create a bond between so many new players will be difficult for Cotterill, but the striker has said it's something the manager is trying his best to do.

One of the main things he talks about is getting a good team spirit, getting everyone to work for one another.”

The Verdict

Birmingham fans will appreciate the honesty from Gallagher and it's clear they will need more time to get everything working properly.

But, that cannot excuse some of the performances which haven't been anywhere near the standards Blues fans should expect.

Steve Cotterill has a big job on his hands to change the mood and it should improve over time, but unfortunately he doesn't have much of that given the hectic schedule they face.
