Birmingham City’s move for Torino midfielder Afriyie Acquah could be back on, with the Italian club set to sign a midfielder, according to reports in the Birmingham Mail.

Torino are on the verge of signing Godfred Donsah from Serie A rivals Bologna, potentially paving the way for Acquah’s move to St Andrews.

The Ghanaian international has been subject to interest from the Blues for some time now, with manager Harry Redknapp keen to bring the dominating midfielder to the West Midlands this summer.

Birmingham are growing increasingly confident of a deal, with director of football Jeff Vetere flying out to Italy to watch the 25-year-old in action on Sunday.

The player joined Torino from German side Hoffenheim in 2015, and played in the same side as England goalkeeper Joe Hart last season as the Italians finished in ninth position.

Acquah is said to be keen to move to England, although Redknapp has admitted that getting a deal over the line will be ‘difficult’, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The Verdict: In a transfer saga that seems to have dragged on for some time now, we may finally be seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.

It appears Torino did not want to let the player leave the club without a suitable replacement being found, but now they have reportedly found their man in Donsah, the path seems clear for Acquah to move to England.

It could still take some time for this deal to be confirmed however, and Birmingham fans could be left sweating until the final days of the summer window.
