Birmingham City want to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Jonny Williams in January, according to the print edition of The Sun on Sunday (1st October, page 61) reported via HITC Sport.

Jonny Williams is currently on a season long loan at Birmingham City's Championship rivals Sunderland but the Blues are hoping to complete a permanent deal in the January window nonetheless.

Williams has struggled to make his breakthrough at Crystal Palace and has been farmed out on loan on numerous occasions.

The diminutive 5ft 7in man has spent time out on loan at Ipswich Town, Nottingham Forest, Milton Keynes Dons and then at Ipswich Town again before his summer switch to Sunderland on a temporary basis.

The 23-year-old midfielder could therefore be tempted by the prospect of a permanent move away from Selhurst Park if the right offer comes in.

Since his move to The Stadium of Light, Williams has managed four outings for the struggling Black Cats.

The 17-cap Wales international might not stay at Sunderland for the duration of the season though as Crystal Palace are set to mull over Birmingham's anticipated £2m bid.

With Williams seemingly surplus to requirements at Crystal Palace, they might be willing to offload him.

The Verdict

Jonny Williams should probably manufacture a move away from Crystal Palace for his own career's sake.

He is clearly not in favour there and a number of Championship clubs will probably be queuing up for his services.

The 23-year-old is still young and has plenty of experience in the second tier.
