Birmingham handed positive boost as key trio near return from injury

Birmingham City manager Gianfranco Zola has given fans an update on the injuries of various players via the club’s official website and it’s largely good news.

Zola confirmed that a trio of important first team players were back in training this week.

Winger Jacques Maghoma, who has been out since sustaining a knee injury during the African Cup of Nations in January, has trained “three or four times” and is approaching a return to action.

Meanwhile, star striker Lukas Jutkiewicz is back in training after a slight hamstring tweak and left back Jonathan Grounds is also training again after missing last Friday’s clash with a groin problem.

Zola gave further updates on long-term absentees Clayton Donaldson and Michael Morrison.

The Italian boss expects Donaldson to make a return to full training by the end of the week as he continues to recover from a heel injury.

Morrison, however, will still be out for at least two more weeks after undergoing groin surgery.

Birmingham fans – what do you make of this update? Are you encouraged by the return of your key trio? Let us know in the comments below…
