Championship side Birmingham City face a testing battle to land highly-rated Dijon forward Lois Diony this summer, according to French newspaper Le Progres (via The Birmingham Mail).
The 24-year-old moved to the French side back in 2014 and has since gone from strength to strength, bagging 33 goals and laying on 17 assists in 116 games for the club to help them return to Ligue 1.
In fact, he netted 11 goals and laid on four assists in the 2015/16 campaign to inspire the side to promotion from the second tier, and then produced the goods once again last term with ten goals and eight assists in 35 Ligue 1 matches to help them avoid the drop.
And his excellent form in the attacking third at Dijon has attracted interest from Birmingham chief Harry Redknapp, who has been linked with a move for Diony in the last few weeks as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion to the Premier League.
However, recent reports in France suggest that the 70-year-old will face a battle to land the 24-year-old, with Ligue 1 outfit Saint Etienne throwing their hat in the ring to secure the forward’s signature this summer.
The French side finished eighth in the top-flight last season and were just nine points adrift of the European spots, and clearly feel that bringing in someone like Diony would seriously aid them in their quest to secure Europa League football.
And with Premier League duo Brighton and Bournemouth also thought to be interested, it’s going to take something quite special from Redknapp and the Birmingham hierarchy to lure the 24-year-old to St Andrew’s this summer.
