Birmingham City and Swansea City are both reportedly interested in a move for Kidderminster Harriers' playmaker Ed Williams.

The non-league midfielder grabbed 13 goals and six assists in 36 appearances for Kidderminster last season.

A number of Premier League and Championship clubs, including Leeds United, Derby County, and Aston Villa, were rumoured to be keeping tags on the midfielder at the start of last season and it seems he has caught the attention of multiple EFL teams this summer.

According to the Mirror, Birmingham, Swansea, and League One side Peterborough are monitoring the goalscoring midfielder.

Williams joined Kidderminster from Gloucester City in 2018, on the back of a season in which he scored nine goals and won the team's player of the year award.

He developed through the Cheltenham Town youth system before moving to Gloucester in 2014.

The 23-year-old, who has two appearances for the England C team, signed with Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy's agent John Morris last year.

Williams has spoken in the past about his aim to get back into the Football League and it appears he may get that chance at either the Blues or the Swans.

The Verdict

Given his lack of experience in the football league, bringing in Williams would undoubtedly be a risk but it should be one that will have little impact financially.

Williams is moving from outside the football leagues, which means any deal for the 23-year-old is likely to be cheap.

Sides will likely be thinking about the success of the signings of Vardy and Nottingham Forest winger Joe Lolley, both of whom have made similar switches to the upper tiers of English football in recent years.

Swansea boss Steve Cooper's experience developing young players could make the Liberty Stadium a good fit for Williams but the Blues will also be an attractive option given their status as a club.
