Birmingham City did not enjoy the weekend they would have hoped to as they travelled to Aston Villa yesterday afternoon.

The Blues went into the game in fairly decent form as they looked to derail Villa's promotion party but they ended up seeing Villa notch a 2-0 win.

A bad day at the office for the Blues, then, but as long as they can get back to winning ways sooner rather than later their recent good results won't have been for nothing.

Away from the pitch, meanwhile, young star Wes Harding has signed a new deal with the club with him set to stay at St. Andrew's now for another two years:

The defender is yet to play in the Championship this season but has made a couple of appearances in the League Cup and that will be something he is looking to build on.

With two years in front of him with the Blues now, too, he's got time to establish himself.

The Verdict

Harding has done enough to get a new deal with the club and now he needs to knuckle down.

He's got the potential to get into the first team if he can keep working hard and the Blues have clearly seen that he has that potential.
