Kristian Pedersen is a summer target for the Blues, according to Extra Bladet.

Garry Monk is aiming to complete his first bit of transfer business early in the window with Pedersen likely to cost around £2.3 million. The 23-year-old currently plays in Germany's second division for Union Berlin, who finished eighth in the league as part of a mediocre campaign.

Pedersen was heavily involved because he made 32 league appearances as well as scoring a goal and providing four assists for the side from the capital. This is the highest level he has played at, so it might take a while for him to adapt to the Championship.

The Dane didn't make his country's World Cup squad but will be sure to be keeping a close eye on events in Russia like the rest of us, while Denmark are slight outsiders with 888sport in their warm up match against Sweden this week.

The Verdict

This would be a big blow for Leeds because they have been targeting him for a while to provide competition for the left-back role due to the uncertainty over Tom Pearce's future at the club as well as the lack of reliability of other options such as Laurens De Bock.

Birmingham have Maxime Colin and Jonathan Grounds as options for the left-back role currently, but Monk doesn't appear to be fully convinced by them both based on this move. Colin only moved to Birmingham last summer, although he is naturally a right-back. Acquiring a player this quickly would be efficient transfer business, so Monk has a clear idea of what improvements need to be made to the squad.
