Birmingham City are targeting a striker in the January window and they are expected to add at least one number nine to their ranks next month.

Pep Clotet, who was named as the permanent head coach today, has endured a mixed start to life as Blues boss. Even though the side are languishing in the bottom half, fans recognise how the Spaniard is trying to change the style of play at St. Andrew's.

So, there is a patience and understanding to what he is doing, although it's clear that new faces are needed.

And, there was positive news on that front, with Birmingham Live revealing that a striker should arrive during January.

"It is expected another striker will arrive in the transfer window and either provide a clear solution or another variable."

Alvaro Gimenez was signed from Almeria in the summer with a good reputation after hitting 20 goals in the Spanish second division last season but he has managed just two so far in England.

Target man Lukas Jutkiewicz is on just four after 19 games, so it's fair to say that Blues have struggled to cope without Che Adams who left for Southampton.

Do you know where these 15 ex-Birmingham City players are playing now?

The verdict

This isn't really a surprise but it will be news that's welcomed by Blues supporters.

They really are struggling for goals and it's clear to most observers that they need a new number nine, so it will be interesting to see who they can bring in.

If they land a proven goalscorer then it could really transform this side as Clotet has done some good work with the team over the past few months but they need that ruthless edge which is currently lacking.
