Birmingham City have been linked with a surprise move for forward Hugo Rodallega who is now playing in Turkey with Trabzonspor.

The Colombian is known to fans in England after playing over 200 games for Wigan and then Fulham, although he left the Cottagers in 2015.

After spending a season and a half with Akhisar Belediyespor, Rodallega moved to his current club in January 2016.

However, the 32-year old is currently second choice behind Burak Yilmaz and the Birmingham Mail have revealed that the Turkish press are stating he could therefore be set for a move to the Championship side.

Yet, the report does state that the Trabzonspor boss would prefer to keep the striker as backup.

Blues are desperate for a forward having really struggled for goals this season. They have managed just 16 strikes this season from 28 games, which is comfortably the lowest in the entire division.

Given that, Steve Cotterill has prioritised the signing of attacking player this window although he hasn’t managed to get a deal over the line so far.

The Verdict

Birmingham have to sign at least one striker this window although Rodallega would be a risky move.

He won’t be the same player that impressed at Wigan and may need time to get up to speed with the intensity and physicality of the Championship, but can Blues afford to wait for that?

However, the Colombian clearly is talented and Cotterill may think he can get the best out of him but it's a gamble nonetheless.
