Sky Bet Championship side Birmingham City are interested in signing Swansea City winger Jefferson Montero this summer, according to reliable journalist Alan Nixon.

It has been a whirlwind few days for the West Midlands club, who surprisingly parted company with manager Garry Monk earlier on in the week.

His assistant, Pep Clotet, will remain in charge of Blues for the forthcoming season, and it looks as if the Spaniard is set to make a move for one of his former players from his time at Swansea.

Montero was hugely out of favour under Graham Potter at Swansea last term, making just 12 appearances for the Welsh club before being shipped out on loan to West Brom in the January transfer window.

The pacey winger then went on to make just four appearances for the Baggies, with only one of those being a starting appearance in the Championship, where he found the net just once.

It remains to be seen whether Blues try to sign him permanently or on a loan deal, but Clotet definitely needs to add some more firepower to his side's attack, with Jota leaving for Aston Villa and leading goalscorer Che Adams on the brink of signing for Southampton.

The Verdict

I think that a move to St. Andrew's would be a perfect move for Montero, as he would be playing for a manager that he knows well, and a manager that is likely to give him regular game-time too.

It has been a tough couple of years for him, but I think people forget how impressive he was at times for Swansea in the Premier League, and he would be a very good signing for Blues.

He is direct, he is fast, and he would add competition to a position that definitely needs it.
