Young midfielder Charlie Lakin will remain at Birmingham City for at least another season with the Blues opting to trigger the one-year extension option in his deal with the club.

The Blues will be looking to have a productive summer this year with Lee Bowyer looking to bring in players that he feels will help make the difference and help his side climb up the Championship table after a handful of campaigns where they've largely been at the wrong end.

He also evidently likes the look of what he has seen from Lakin during his loan spell at Scottish side Ross County with the Blues retaining the young midfielder for at least another season, as per Birmingham Live.

The Verdict

Clearly, Bowyer wants to have a proper look at Lakin first hand in training now that his loan at Ross County is coming to an end and we'll have to see whether next season is going to be one where the midfielder enjoys increased game-time at St Andrew's.

Bowyer gave plenty of young players a chance when he was at Charlton as a manager and though he won't want to do that just for the sake of it, if Lakin can offer him something he won't hesitate to get him involved.
