After 13 years at the West Midlands based club, the goalkeeper was told that his current contract would not be renewed which leaves him without a club for the first time since joining the Blues.

Many fans have realised that Doyle was the last player from the Carling Cup winning squad and have now called for the club to organise a testimonial match in his honour.

There has been no official word from Birmingham City as it stands but the petition looks as though it is gathering pace, as it makes its way round social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

In his many years at the club, which began back in 2001 as an academy scholar, Doyle has actually only made 31 appearances for the Blues but many fans want to remember him for his loyalty to the club.

Birmingham City fans….. What do you make of this news? Will Colin Doyle be sorely missed? Or was he simply not good enough anymore? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below!
