Birmingham City manager has confirmed that Ryan Shotton could leave this summer, the club's official website is reporting.

Speaking after Birmingham's 2-0 loss in a pre-season game against Swansea City, Harry Redknapp confirmed why he left Ryan Shotton out of the match day squad.

Redknapp said that a bid has been received for Ryan Shotton but it currently falls below the Blues' valuation of their star defender so it has been rejected.

Birmingham now await an improved bid.

Redknapp added that Ryan Shotton would like to move away if he is given the chance.

However, they won't budge until another club matches Birmingham's valuation of the former Stoke City and Derby County defender.

If Shotton remains unsold, he will go into next week's squad for the opening game of the Sky Bet Championship season.

The 28-year-old has been a key member of Birmingham City's squad in the past two seasons, growing into his role at centre half.

Also able to play as a right back, Shotton is attracting attention from a number of Championship sides.

Among the teams credited with an interest are recently relegated duo Middlesbrough and Hull City, who are both aiming to bounce straight back up to the Premier League.

Birmingham signed Barnsley captain Marc Roberts earlier in the window and have also been linked with a move for Aden Flint, presumably as a replacement for Shotton if he does depart.

The Verdict

There is no doubting that Ryan Shotton has been one of the standout performers at Birmingham.

Without him, the Blues could well have got relegated.

However, there is no point in keeping someone that does not want to be there.

With Marc Roberts already arriving this summer and Michael Morrison at the club too, Redknapp has options.

If Birmingham receive a decent fee for the 28-year-old, they should definitely reinvest that in Aden Flint - a proven Championship defender.
