Birmingham are seen as outsiders for promotion this season, and will be looking to cleverly utilise this transfer window to make it back to the Premier League.

The Blues looked as though they could steal a play-off place at Christmas last season, but a catastrophic decision by their new owners to sack Gary Rowett and replace him with Gianfranco Zola proved fatal to their chances.

Things deteriorated quite quickly for the club, who went on a horrific run of form winning just two games under the ex-Chelsea striker, who was then sacked in favour of Harry Redknapp.

Suddenly they had gone from promotion hopefuls to relegation battlers, but managed to win their final three games of the season to seal Championship safety.

With cash behind them this summer, Redknapp is hoping to launch a promotion push, and should bring in the ambitious loan signing of Lewis Baker from Chelsea to help him do it.

Baker has played in the Championship before, on loan at Sheffield Wednesday in 2015, but struggled to force his way into their starting eleven.

He has since spent two years at Chelsea's sister club Vitesse Arnhem, and after a fairly average first season with the Dutch side, he netted 15 goals from midfield in all competitions in his second campaign with them, a very impressive return.

The 22-year-old looks set for another loan spell in England this season, and there will undoubtedly be a host of Championship sides scrambling for the impressive midfielder's signature.

Baker would definitely add something different to Birmingham's midfield, with more tenacity and a greater goal scoring threat.
