Birmingham City should look to bring loanee into side next season

Birmingham City avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth this season, with an immense 3-1 victory over Fulham at St Andrew’s on the final day of the season.

While the fans celebrated securing another season of Championship football, questions have to be asked about the number of goals Garry Monk’s side conceded over the campaign, after they finished in 19th place in the league table.

With an aging squad, perhaps it is time that the Blues gave some of their up and coming players a chance in their squad, starting with defender Dan Scarr.

The centre-back signed a two and a half year contract at St Andrew’s back in August last year but is yet to make a first-team appearance.

The 23-year-old signed for Birmingham City from Northern Premier League Premier Division side Stourbridge in January 2017, before being sent out on loan to Wycombe Wanderers.

During his loan spell at Adams Park, Scarr became a key part of the Chairboys team, playing 26 times across all competitions, and seeing new side finish third and promoted to League One, scoring once along the way.

The no-nonsense centre-back provides pace and height at the back, all while having the ability to score in important matches when called upon, having proven that by netting against his current employers for a Stourbridge side that progressed the third round of the 2016/17 FA Cup. Stourbridge went on to lose the game 2-1, with a late winner from Player of the Season Adebayo Akinfenwa.

Dan Scarr, while still relatively young and inexperienced, is certainly a name that Birmingham City fans will know in the future. Given the opportunity to play for the club he grew up supporting, could do wonders for the defender’s career, and Garry Monk’s side next season.
