Birmingham City have shared a video on their official Twitter feed of Cheikh Ndoye scoring a goal for Senegal during the international break.

Ndoye has spent the last week away from Birmingham with his country, who are looking to qualify for the World Cup in Russia next summer.

The 31-year-old stepped off the bench for Senegal against Cape Verde over the weekend to score with a sensational strike in a 2-0 victory, which has helped move his country to the top of their qualifying group.

The goal was Ndoye’s fourth international goal, but the midfielder is yet to open his goalscoring account for Birmingham, who he joined over the summer transfer window.

Ndoye has featured in all 11 of Birmingham’s Sky Bet Championship fixtures so far this season, but has been unable to prevent the Blues suffering a disappointing start to the campaign.

Birmingham entered last week’s international break on the back of a 6-1 hammering against Hull City, which left the Blues in the Championship’s relegation zone.

Birmingham return to Championship action this week when they face Cardiff City on Friday night, for what will be Steve Cotterill’s first game in the dugout following his appointment as Harry Redknapp’s permanent successor.

The Verdict

Ndoye’s strike for Senegal was sensational, and Birmingham’s supporters will be delighted to see the midfielder has that kind of thing in his locker.

Birmingham’s start to the season has been a disaster, and the club’s supporters will be hoping that Cotterill can turn things around quickly, despite facing a difficult start against league leaders, Cardiff.

The form of a player like Ndoye will be key, with the midfielder having the ability to set the tempo for Birmingham in the middle of the pitch.
