Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett is ready to make former Aston Villa defender Shane Lowry his next summer signing, according to HITC Sport.
Lowry is currently with Sky Bet League Two side Leyton Orient but due to him being one of the club’s highest earners he has been told he is free to leave the club should he find a club willing to take him.
It is understood that a number of Championship and League One clubs have been alerted to the availability of the player and the Blues may face stiff competition.
Whoever Lowry signs for he will offer an array of Championship and League One experience and lists Millwall, Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield United and Leeds United among his former employers.
The tough-tackling defender looks to have the choice between Wigan and Birmingham at present with the Blues looking like the favourites due to their Championship status.
Lowry’s experience in the Football League would make him a top signing for a number of clubs, and it is no surprise to see a lot of interest in the Leyton Orient defender – as it is unlikely he will want to be plying his trade in Sky Bet League Two next season.
Blues fans… Would you welcome Lowry? Would it be a problem that he started out at Villa? Do you need another defender? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
