Jack Butland is a player that has been linked with a move away from Stoke City for the last few transfer windows.

Most recently, the England shot-stopper has been the subject of a potential move to Aston Villa (according to the Daily Mail), with the newly-promoted Villans looking to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.

The report claims that Dean Smith's side will have to pay in the region of £23m to land Butland's signature, and it remains to be seen as to whether an official bid will be submitted.

But if a deal is reached between the two clubs, then one of Butland's former employers could be set for a welcome cash boost.

It has been revealed by the Birmingham Mail that Birmingham will receive 20% of any profit made from Stoke selling Butland in the summer, with his future looking like it is away from Nathan Jones' side.

The 26-year-old spent three senior years with the Blues, after coming through their youth academy system.

Butland broke into the Birmingham first-team in the 2012/2013 season, and was hugely impressive, before earning a move to Stoke in 2013.

He's been hugely impressive since, and has emerged as one of Aston Villa's top transfer targets heading into next season.

Stoke's loss could prove to be Aston Villa's and Birmingham's gain if any deal is agreed between the two parties.

The Verdict:

This could be handy.

Butland has been brilliant for Stoke since he signed for them, and he's certainly capable of making the step back up to the Premier League.

He's too good for the Championship, and Birmingham will be pleased that they could be in line to receive a timely cash injection from any potential deal for Butland, as Villa are looking at a fee in the region of £23m upwards if they are to land his signature.
