After a five-year spell with the Fleetwood Town, it appears that Conor McLaughlin’s departure from the club will not be the fond farewell he may have hoped for.

After stalling on a new deal, boss Uwe Rosler has withdrawn the offer of a new contract, and will allow the Northern Irishman to leave the club on a free transfer.

McLaughlin looks set for a move to the Championship, it would appear that nobody would begrudge the international a move to the higher level.

It remains unclear which clubs have offered the defender a contract, but one club who should be in for the player are Birmingham City.

With Harry Redknapp at the helm, the Blues will be an attractive proposition for a number of players, with the former Tottenham boss a legend in the English game.

Birmingham narrowly avoided the drop last season, and Redknapp will look to turn his side’s fortunes around in his first full season in charge.

A leaky defence needs bolstering, and the addition of McLaughlin on a free transfer would be an excellent piece of business.

With John Terry reportedly close to joining the second city club, a move to Redknapp’s St. Andrew's project would be extremely exciting, and an opportunity which the player should seize.
