According to the Mirror’s live blog (2/8, 10:50), Birmingham City have had a bid turned down by Bristol City for Joe Bryan.

Harry Redknapp is actively looking to improve his Birmingham squad after narrowly avoiding relegation in the Sky Bet Championship last season, but is becoming frustrated with Birmingham’s lack of arrivals.

The 70-year-old’s frustration is not likely to end soon, with Bristol rejecting Birmingham’s advances to sign Bryan.

The left-back is in-demand this summer, with Leeds United and Fulham also reportedly interested in luring him away from Ashton Gate.

The 23-year-old has been impressive in the Championship over the last two years, making 83 appearances and helping the Robins survive relegation on two occasions.

Despite heavy interest from across the Championship, Bristol are continuing to play hardball over the defender who has two-years remaining on his current contract at Ashton Gate.

It remains to be seen if Birmingham return with an improved offer, as Redknapp looks to reshape his squad and transform then from relegation candidates to promotion contenders.

Despite the summer promising so much, there has been just three new arrivals at St Andrew’s so far, with David Stockdale the club’s standout addition.

Marc Roberts has been signed from Championship rivals Barnsley, whilst Cheikh N’Doye is another new addition.

Birmingham begin the 2017/18 campaign this weekend with a trip to Ipswich Town.

The Verdict

It is easy to see why Redknapp is becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of summer signings at St Andrew’s, with his squad in desperate need of a revamp.

The addition of Stockdale is an impressive piece of business, but the Blues’ squad is still way short if they are planning a push for promotion.

A player like Bryan could be just what Redknapp’s squad needs, with the 23-year-old likely to bring energy and some real quality to the defence.
