Birmingham City have completed the signing of Croatia Under-21 captain Ivan Sunjic.

The 22-year-old has signed a five-year deal at St Andrew's for an undisclosed fee and joins from Croatian top-flight side Dinamo Zagreb.

The holding midfielder had attracted interest from plenty of other clubs in Europe, including Leeds United, but decided to join the Blues.

He becomes Birmingham's third signing of the summer, after Dan Crowley from Eredivisie side Willem II and Chelsea defender Jake Clarke-Salter, who has joined on loan.

Sunjic has played one full international for Croatia, but has made several appearances for his country's under-21 side.

Birmingham finished 17th in the Championship under Garry Monk last season and will be hoping to challenge further up the table under Pep Clotet this term.

Sunjic will not be involved for Birmingham's final pre-season friendly against Brighton at St Andrew's tomorrow and could make his debut for the Blues against Brentford on the opening day of the 2019/20 season next weekend.

The Verdict

I think this is a fantastic signing for Birmingham. Sunjic is a very talented footballer and is regarded as one of the Croatia's brightest young talents.

He's possesses great quality on the ball and could be the perfect fit for the style of football that Clotet is trying to bring to Birmingham.

This is his first experience of English football, so it will be interesting to see how he gets on, but he certainly seems a player with a lot potential and I think he's got all the attributes to succeed in the Championship.
