Birmingham City have entered the race to sign Lewis Grabban this summer, rivalling Nottingham Forest for the striker’s signature.

According to Alan Nixon, often a reliable source on Twitter, Birmingham have entered the race to sign Grabban for £5m this summer, providing a fresh twist in the striker’s transfer saga.

Aitor Karanka is keen to take Grabban to the City Ground from AFC Bournemouth, but now faces competition from Garry Monk across the Championship.

Grabban has returned to his parent-club, Bournemouth, this summer, after a hugely successful year in the Championship.

The 30-year-old featured for Sunderland during the first-half of the season, scoring 12 goals at the Stadium of Light, despite finding himself in a side struggling towards the bottom end of the Championship table.

In January, Grabban left the Stadium of Light, linking up with Aston Villa, who were challenging for promotion at the opposite end of the table.

During his spell at Villa Park, Grabban returned eight goals, spearheading Villa’s promotion push under Steve Bruce.

Birmingham are now battling with Forest to secure Grabban’s signature ahead of the new season, with Monk looking to reshape a squad that struggled in the Championship last year.

The Verdict

Grabban was superb last season, impressing in two sides at different ends of the Championship table.

For both Birmingham and Forest, he would be worth the £5m, as he has the potential to transform their strikeforce.

It’ll be tough for Grabban to replicate last season’s goalscoring form, but he will still be a huge threat.
