Birmingham City boss Garry Monk was awarded with the Performance of the Week award from the LMA after Blues' impressive victory at Leeds last time out.

The West Midlands side made the trip up north without a win in the Championship and it looked a tall order to beat a Leeds side who were unbeaten under Marcelo Bielsa in the league and sitting top.

However, a first-half brace from Che Adams gave the visitors a good lead and although Ezgjan Alioski pulled one back for the Whites, Blues held on for three valuable points.

And, the club revealed on Twitter this afternoon that the victory received the award from the League Managers Association.

A panel of former bosses go through the weekend games and pick the result which they think was the standout one of the weekend.

In this case, Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett, former Blues boss Barry Fry and Sir Alex Ferguson decided that their win merited the award.

The victory moved Monk's men up to 17th in the table ahead of this weekend's game against Ipswich at home, with the Tractor Boys seeking their first success this season.

The Verdict

You can't really argue with Birmingham getting that award as it was a shock given that one side went into the game unbeaten and the other without a win.

However, those that have seen Blues play this season will have felt it was coming, with Monk's side hugely unfortunate not to have picked up maximum points before this.

Now, it's about building on that against Ipswich at St. Andrew's tomorrow.
