Birmingham City are interested in taking Arsenal youngster Josh Dasilva to St Andrews as they investigate ways to strengthen their squad whilst under the current transfer embargo.

Birmingham Live report that Garry Monk's side are hoping to exploit a loophole in the embargo to take the highly-rated 19-year old on a season-long loan.

Dasilva is a product of the Arsenal academy who joined the Gunners at the age of eight. He is reported to have played in every outfield position during his tenure and featured in EFL Cup wins over Norwich, Doncaster and West Ham last season, as well as featuring as an unused substitute against Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League.

Since his early days of extreme versatility he's settled into an attacking role, be it advanced midfield or up front, and has been described as a highly technical player who loves to run with the ball at his feet.

The 19-year old has represented England at U19 and U20 level, but has not broken into the Arsenal first team plans under Wenger and looks unlikely to do so under new manager Unai Emery.

The Verdict

It may be grasping at straws, but Garry Monk has to bring someone in, anyone he can, to help boost his sides chances of avoiding another relegation battle.

DaSilva certainly looks like the type of player fans would like to see at St Andrews, but I'm sure they would be much happier if he was one of six or seven new faces, not the solitary loan signing on which hopes are being pinned.
