Birmingham City are interested in making a late move for Stoke City forward Benik Afobe, according to reports from Football Insider.

With less than three hours to go until the transfer window slams shut, Blues are believed to be on the lookout for a new forward to partner Lukas Jutkiewicz, having lost Che Adams to Southampton earlier on in the summer.

The West Midlands side had been linked with George Puscas, but the former Inter Milan forward has now signed for Championship rivals Reading on a five-year deal.

But now, reports from Football Insider claim that Birmingham are now plotting a move for former Wolves forward Benik Afobe, who has endured a turbulent time at Stoke since his move to the bet365 Stadium last summer.

The 26-year-old has scored nine goals in 48 appearances for the Potters, after what was a hugely disappointing campaign under Gary Rowett last term.

Before his reported £12 move to Staffordshire, Afobe was a frequent goalscorer for Wolves, netting 29 times in a total of 64 games for the West Midlands side across two different spells at Molineux.

Stoke have recently added competition to their front-line with the loan signing of Aston Villa forward Scott Hogan, which could potentially push Afobe down the pecking order at the bet365 Stadium.

The Verdict

This would be an incredible signing for Birmingham, but I just can't see a move happening at this stage of the window.

Stoke spent a very hefty amount of money on Afobe last summer, and he is still arguably one of the best strikers in the division when he's on form.

Up top alongside Jutkiewicz, he could really flourish if he made the move to St. Andrew's.
