Birmingham City are plotting a move for Burnley striker Nahki Wells in the January transfer window, according to the printed version of The Sun (03/11, page 61).

The 29-year-old is currently on loan at Queens Park Rangers and has been one of the standout players for Mark Warburton's side in the Championship this season - scoring seven goals in 13 league appearances.

The striker has played a key role in Rangers' promising start to the season, but if this latest report is to be believed, he could be set to leave Loftus Road in January.

Wells is out of contract at Burnley at the end of the season and the Premier League club are keen to make a profit on the player, who has made just ten substitute appearances for the Clarets since joining from Huddersfield Town in 2017.

Burnley are understood to want £6million for Wells, and Birmingham are hoping to take advantage of this by submitting an offer for the attacker in the January transfer window - which would bring an end to his loan spell at Loftus Road.

Wells also spent last season on loan at QPR and scored nine goals in all competitions, before returning to the club on another season-long loan deal this summer.

The Verdict

This would be a great signing for Birmingham. Even though they've made an encouraging start to the season, the Blues could still do with a bit more firepower up front after losing Che Adams in the summer and Wells would be a very smart signing.

Even though things didn't work out for him at Burnley in the Premier League, Wells has got plenty of experience in the Championship and has been in great form for QPR so far this season.

He's out of contract at Truf Moor in the summer, so I'm sure Burnley would jump at the chance to make a profit on him.

It would be a major blow for QPR to lose him, but it's unlikely that they'd be able to come up with the cash to sign him on a permanent deal - their loss could well turn out to be Birmingham's gain.
