Birmingham City midfielder Jude Bellingham has been one of the standout young players in the Championship this season.

The 16-year-old made his first-team debut for the Blues earlier in the campaign and has been able to establish himself as an integral part of Pep Clotet's side.

The teenager has made 15 appearances for Birmingham in the Championship so far - scoring two goals - and is building a reputation as one of the most exciting and talented young players in the country.

If recent reports are to be believed, Bellingham's impressive performances for the Blues haven't gone unnoticed, with Chelsea thought to be one of several Premier League sides to be keeping close tabs on the highly-rated midfielder.

According to The Telegraph, Frank Lampard's side - along with Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Bournemouth - have sent scouts to St Andrew's this season to watch the teenager in action.

There are plenty of reasons why Bellingham could be tempted by the opportunity join a top Premier League club like Chelsea, but he'd be taking a huge risk by leaving Birmingham at this stage of his career.

Bellingham has been superb for Birmingham so far this season and has really impressed with how quickly he's been able to adapt to the Championship.

He's clearly a special talent and he's definitely one to watch for the future, but it's way too early to tell whether he'd be able to make it in the Premier League.

His performances for Birmingham so far this season have been very promising, but at the end of the day he's made just eleven starts in the Championship and there's no doubt that he's still got a lot to learn.

Chelsea have got some quality players in their squad and even though Frank Lampard has shown that he's prepared to give young players a chance, it's very difficult to see Bellingham getting any opportunities in the first team at Stamford Bridge at the moment given his lack of experience.

He's more likely to end up playing for their reserves or he could even end up being sent out on loan, whereas at Birmingham he's one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Playing regular first-team football in a league as competitive as the Championship is going to be extremely crucial for his development. Not only that, but he's also at a club where he's adored by the fans.

There's no doubt that he could have what it takes to play in the Premier League in the future, but Bellingham would be taking a big risk by leaving Birmingham at this stage of his career.

He'd be far better off remaining at St Andrew's and trying to gain more experience in the Championship.
