Lee Carsley will have a total of six games in charge of Birmingham City, a reliable football journalist has revealed.

Alan Nixon is reporting that Birmingham City will give caretaker manager Lee Carsley six games before deciding on their new manager.

Birmingham City sacked Harry Redknapp last week after the former West Ham, Tottenham and QPR manager only picked up four points in his first eight games.

This left Birmingham in the bottom three.

The Blues have placed Lee Carsley in temporary charge and he guided them to a respectable 1-1 draw against Derby County at Pride Park in his first game in charge despite having a depleted squad.

The future plan now is to keep Carsley in charge of the side for a while and then decide on a new boss.

Whoever comes in will become the fourth manager at St Andrew's since the start of last season after the West Midlands side parted ways with Gary Rowett, Gianfranco Zola and then Harry Redknapp.

Despite Birmingham's draw at the weekend, they remain in the bottom three and Carsley will be tasked with lifting them out of the relegation zone.

It is not clear yet whether he is in the frame for the full-time managerial role or not.

The Verdict

Birmingham are taking their time over this appointment after making a few disappointing decisions in recent times.

This is much wiser than rushing and bringing in a new manager.

The Blues have plenty of time to improve this season and their squad is starting to show signs of gelling.
