Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett says he expects bids from Premier League sides for starlet Demarai Gray.

The 19-year-old emerged as a key first-team player for the Blues last year, impressing from the left side and managing six goals in 43 appearances and earning the attention of a number of Premier League sides.

Big clubs such as Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham have all been linked with moves of the past year, as well as Newcastle.

Bournemouth had a well documented pursuit of the England international, making five bids in January 2015, the highest totalling £5 million, and they continued their interest into this summer.

But it’s Leicester City who are now the favourites to bring him in, many linking them with a bid that activates his release clause, but Rowett admits he expects bids for his wonderkid.

He told the Express: “You expect that. I would hope we would get bids because that means we are doing our job properly and he is playing really well.

“If I was a Premier League club I would be buying him but at the same time he knows I want him to stay, he knows I want him to keep developing and be a big part of what we do this year.”

The Blues currently sit just outside the Sky Bet Championship play-off places in seventh place, after an unbeaten start to their 2015/16 Championship campaign.
