Birmingham City keeper Connal Trueman has revealed just how much hearing the fans singing his name meant to him in the recent draw with Millwall.

The 23-year-old has started the last three Blues games after coming into the XI for the struggling Lee Camp and he has coped pretty well on the whole.

A standout moment came during the first-half against the Lions when Trueman made an excellent stop to deny Matt Smith.

It brought the home fans to their feet in applause and they started to sing his name after, something that the keeper revealed will stick with him.

"It was quite a moment. You can’t help but hear it and get little goosebumps, it did put a little smile on my face at the time, it was a good feeling to be honest," he told Birmingham Live.

"I am not fussed about the song choice, so to even hear them say my name was something I had dreamed of for a long, long time."

Trueman is expected to continue in goal as Blues take on Reading at the Madejski Stadium this weekend, seeking to end a five-game winless run.

The verdict

This is great to hear and it shows just how much playing for Birmingham means to the keeper and that's exactly how it should be.

It also highlights the impact that fans can have on individual and how showing support can really help the team, so they will have to continue to back Trueman moving forward.

Now, it's down to him to maintain the high standards he has set recently as Blues look to end their poor run.
