Birmingham City defender Harlee Dean has admitted that he would have been "embarassed" to have played Neal Maupay’s part in Maikel Kieftenbeld’s red card on Tuesday night, reports the Birmingham Mail.

The Blues held the Bees to a 1-1 draw after playing the last half-hour with just 10 men following Kieftenbeld's red card - the Dutchman was adjudged to have pushed Brentford's top goalscorer in the face with his hand.

But Dean, who made his return to Griffin Park after a six-year stint with the club, said he had a clear view of the incident and was less than impressed with the way Maupay went down, saying that he would have been "embarrassed" to have been him.

"I was right there - it was a shocking decision if I am honest,” Dean said.

“I thought it was going to be a yellow card against Maupay, his delayed reaction, he has held his hands to his face and threw himself on the floor from a touch of the face," he added.

“I am a man and I would be embarrassed to do what he did."

The result leaves Garry Monk's men searching for only their second league win of the campaign.

They sit 18th in the league after one win, eight draws and two defeats from their opening 11 league games.

The Verdict

Harsh words, but true from Harlee Dean - the incident looks fairly minor and Monk may look to appeal the decision in the next few days.

It'll be interesting to see this one develop.
