Birmingham City striker Sam Cosgrove has turned down the chance to join Scottish Premiership side Dundee on loan, a report from The Daily Record has claimed.

Cosgrove joined Birmingham from another Scottish top-flight club, Aberdeen, in January 2021, but has so far struggled to make an impact at St Andrew's.

The striker has yet to score in 12 appearances for the Blues, which prompted him to be loaned out to Shrewsbury in the summer transfer window.

But with that move also yet to get going - Cosgrove scoring just twice in 22 games for Salop - it now seems as though a potential change of clubs could be on the cards for January. That however, will seemingly not take the striker back to Scotland this month.

According to this latest update, Birmingham had agreed the terms of a loan move for Cosgrove with Dundee, only for the 25-year-old to turn down the chance of a move to Dens Park.

It is thought that the striker would prefer to remain in England, with other opportunities in the EFL apparently on offer for him to pursure.

Cosgrove signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Birmingham when he joined the club, securing his future at St Andrew's until the end of the 2023/24 season.

The Verdict

This is an intriguing stance for Cosgrove to take on his future.

Given his loan spell with Shrewsbury hasn't exactly worked out, it does seem to make sense for the striker to head elsewhere for the second half of the season.

As a result, this rejection of a move to Dundee, means Cosgrove may have to hope that one of these other opportunities in England does indeed materialise.

If it does, then remaining south of the border could make sense, given that is where he surely wants to come good eventually, during his time at Birmingham.
