Birmingham City centre-back Michael Morrison has called for a big defensive performance from the whole team as they gear up to take on the Championship's top scorers, West Brom, on Friday.

The Blues are without a win in the league so far this season and know that they need to get wins on the board with a potential points deduction hanging over their heads.

However, it will be a big ask against Darren Moore's side, who are starting to show why many fancy them for promotion.

Albion have looked good going forward, with Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez forming a very effective partnership in attack. Morrison told Birmingham Live that he is aware of how good the pair are:

"They clearly carry a real goal threat and experience up front. They’ve got arguably Premier League class strikers.

"Me and Harlee (Dean), and the whole back four, and the team is going to be aware of that and we’ll have to be on our game."

Yet, Birmingham can take confidence from the fact they are still unbeaten at St. Andrew's and will be backed by a big crowd for the local derby.

The Verdict

You can't really argue with Morrison. Albion have a lot of quality players, but the front two are the standout players.

Gayle has proven himself to be prolific at this level, whilst Rodriguez was wanted by several top-flight sides all summer.

It is a team effort to stop the pair, but Blues will need big performances from Morrison and Harlee Dean in central defence if they are to get their first win of the season.
