Beryly Lubala has announced that he will leave Birmingham City when his contract at the club expires at the end of the month.

Birmingham had offered Lubala a new one year contract at the end of the season, with the option of extending that deal by a further 12 months, although Lubala will not be accepting that offer.

Taking to his Instagram account on Thursday evening, Lubala revealed that he will leave the club in the summer, after failing to agree terms with The Blues for his new contract. Lubala went onto thank the club's players, staff and fans for welcoming him to St Andrew's, before hinting about his future by claiming that he is awaiting a new challenge elsewhere.

Having joined Birmingham's youth system in the summer of 2014, the now 21-year-old made his debut for Birmingham in a 3-1 Championship defeat to Bristol in April 2018, before going onto make four more appearances for the club in last season, with his only start for the club coming in a 2-0 defeat to Reading in the League Cup last August.

The Verdict

I imagine there will be mixed feelings around St Andrew's around this.

Having offered Lubala a new contract, there may be some disappointment around the club that they have been unable to secure an extended stay at the club for the winger, who could have been a useful option for the club in the future.

That being said, Lubala had been far from a regular feature far Birmingham in his time at the club, so it is possible that his opportunities in the club's first team may never have materialised.

Given the recent departure of manager Garry Monk, you would imagine there are more pressing matters for the hierarchy at the club to deal with.
