Birmingham City, Luton Town and Millwall are all interested in making a potential move for Burnley midfielder Josh Benson this summer, according to The Athletic.

Benson is a player in-demand this summer. That comes with the midfielder having managed to show flashes of his potential last season for Burnley in the Premier League with the 21-year-old making six appearances in the league for Sean Dyche’s side.

It has already recently been reported by The Sun journalist Alan Nixon that Barnsley are interested in making a move for the 21-year-old this summer. It is believed that the Tykes have even submitted an offer of around £650,000 to Burnley to try and secure his services.

The latest report from The Athletic has now outlined that all three of Birmingham City, Luton and Millwall are registering an interest in Benson. The Championship trio all look set to battle Barnsley for the midfielder’s potential signature over the next few weeks.

20 questions about some of Birmingham City’s biggest ever moments in their history – Can you score full marks?

Which player opened the scoring in the 2011 Carling Cup Final?

The midfielder still has a couple more years left to run on his current deal at Turf Moor, but he might find chances hard to come by in the Premier League next term and a Championship move could offer him the chance to further develop his game.

The verdict

Benson could potentially be an excellent addition this summer for the likes of Birmingham, Luton and Millwall and the midfielder is a player that has a lot of potential to be developed into a consistent first-team performer over the coming years.

That is something that has already seen Dyche hand him chances in Burnley’s side which is rare for their younger players.

The midfielder has shown that he has some versatility to his game as well with Burnley using him in a less familiar wider role at times last term.

However, he is much more comfortable in the middle of the park and has the quality to get on the ball and make things happen, as well as having the ability to help out his defenders.

You could see Benson flourishing with regular game time in the Championship over the next few years and therefore a move to any of Birmingham, Luton and Millwall is something that will surely appeal to him this summer. It will be interesting to see whether Burnley decide to cash in on him or whether they feel he still has an important role to play for them in the long-term.
