Birmingham City are poised to offer injury misfit Isaac Vassell a new contract, despite his lack of game time according to Alan Nixon of The Sun.

The 25-year-old has played eight times this season after returning from injury, but he hasn't managed to force a goal as yet. In total, he's made just three starts for Birmingham since moving from Luton Town.

Garry Monk apparently faces a stiff test to keep him at St Andrew's, with fellow Championship side Middlesbrough also interested in his services. Since signing for the Blues, Vassell has scored just once but is still well-regarded.

Nixon reports that there may be issues sorting out the necessary finances at the moment, with the cloud of FFP breaches still hanging over the club.

He began his career with Plymouth where, after being released, he went on to join Truro City in the National League South. His exploits at that level alert Luton Town, where he impressed ahead of the Birmingham move.

The Verdict

It would seem an odd player for the Blues to get itno a mess over. Vassell hasn't impressed in his stay at St Andrew's and wouldn't be one I'd imagine has a future there.

Monk sees the player every day though and may see something in him we don't. It's also a surprise Boro are interested but he would fit their style of play.
