According to the Daily Mail, Birmingham City are hopeful of agreeing a deal to sign Aston Villa’s Tommy Elphick within the next 24 hours.

Elphick only arrived at Villa Park 12-months ago, but found himself out-of-favour with Steve Bruce following his arrival in late 2016.

James Chester and Nathan Baker were preferred to the 29-year-old towards the end of the 2016/17 campaign, and John Terry’s arrival earlier this summer has seen Elphick fall even further down the pecking order.

Harry Redknapp is now offering Elphick a route out of Villa Park and across Birmingham to St Andrew’s, as the 70-year-old looks to reshape his squad ahead of a push for promotion.

Despite finding opportunities limited at Villa Park, Elphick has a wealth of experience in the second-tier, playing a major role in AFC Bournemouth’s promotion in 2015.

The 2014/15 season saw Elphick feature in every Sky Bet Championship fixture, as Bournemouth secured promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history.

It is that experience that will make Elphick such an attractive option for Redknapp this summer, particularly with a planned assault on the Championship’s top-six.

Redknapp has already added David Stockdale, Marc Roberts and Cheikh N’Doye to his Birmingham squad this summer.
