Birmingham City are closing in on the signing of Chelsea youngster Kasey Palmer who excelled in the Championship for Huddersfield last season.

The 21-year old is an attacking midfielder and played 25 games for the Terriers as they won promotion to the Premier League in the previous campaign.

Palmer clearly impressed David Wagner who then took him on loan in the top-slight but a combination of injuries and the form of others kept him out of the team.

That meant he was back at Chelsea and a loan move was widely expected this month. And, according to Dean Jones of Bleacher Report, he will move to Birmingham for the remainder of the season.

Signing Palmer would be something of a coup for the Blues who have seriously struggled for creativity and cutting edge in the final third.

Blues have managed just 16 goals from 28 games this season which is comfortably the lowest in the division. It’s the main reason Steve Cotterill’s men find themselves second from bottom although that could change after tonight’s massive clash against Sunderland.

The Verdict

This would be a great signing for Birmingham as Palmer brings the quality on the ball that is often lacking from the middle of the Blues midfield.

Even though the strikers have to take responsibility for the teams troubles in front of goal, there’s no doubt the service to them is limited.

The Chelsea youngster would change that and could be the perfect link man that helps Birmingham in the final third.
