Birmingham City are facing a crucial next few weeks ahead of their opening match of the Championship campaign and Lee Bowyer will still have some work left to do in the transfer market.

It has been a more than productive summer for the Blues in the transfer market so far, with the likes of Chuks Aneke, Ryan Woods, Jordan Graham all arriving on permanent deals. While all of Dion Sanderson, Tahith Chong, Riley McGree and Juan Castillo all signing on loan deals to bolster the options that Bowyer has available to him next term.

There are still a couple of crucial areas of the squad that the Blues will need to try and address before the window closes and if they can do that then they should be in line for a much-improved season.

It will be interesting to see how much business they can conduct before their opening fixture of the campaign.

With that in mind, we round-up the latest transfer news concerning the Blues…

Burnley set price for Bailey Peacock-Farrell loan amid Blues interest

Bowyer’s most pressing task in the transfer market appears to be finding the right goalkeeper or maybe goalkeepers to add to his squad to provide some competition for places and much-needed cover for Neil Etheridge.

The Blues are reported by The Sun journalist Alan Nixon to have been registering an interest in Burnley goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell this summer.

That comes with League One Sheffield Wednesday also in the race for his signature and the expectation being that the Clarets will sanction a loan departure for him so that he can go and get regular first-team football.

The latest report from The Sun on Peacock-Farrell’s situation has revealed that Bournemouth are also interested in securing a loan deal for the Northern Ireland number one.

While it has also been revealed that Burnley are set to command a loan fee of around £300,000 to sanction a temporary departure for him this summer.

Bowyer confirms imminent deal for Matija Sarkic

Most of the immediate focus for Birmingham in the transfer window is as aforementioned on securing a new goalkeeper to add to the squad to help ease the issues caused by Etheridge having to spend a spell out of action recovering from Covid-19.

The Blues have had Wolves keeper Matija Sarkic on trial and he has been impressing Bowyer with his performances in pre-season.

Bowyer has revealed to Birmingham Live over the weekend that he is now confident that a loan move for the goalkeeper can be completed imminently.

That comes with Wolves being prepared to sanction another temporary exit for the 24-year-old after he had spent time out on loan in League One with Shrewsbury Town last term.

He said: "I think that deal will get done, he has done really well since he has been with us, so I think that will happen.”

Sarkic’s arrival is therefore likely to happen any time over the next few days and having already integrated well into the squad he will be a promising addition on the face of it.
