Birmingham City are looking to bolster their defensive options ahead of the coming season and could be about to move for Derby County defender Jake Buxton, according to FLW Sources.
New Rams boss Paul Clement has already added to his central defensive options with the signing of Alex Pearce from Reading, and with the club in hot pursuit of Burnley captain Jason Shackell, it could mean that Buxton is surplus to requirements at the iPro Stadium.
Buxton was in fine form for Derby during the 2013-14 season and was one of the standout performers as the club reached the Championship play-off final, playing all 46 league games.
Last season saw Buxton struggle to replicate that form and he missed the business end of the season with injury problems.
The former Mansfield Town defender has played over 100 games for Derby since signing from Burton Albion in 2009.
Blues boss Gary Rowett has identified Buxton as one of his primary targets this summer and could be about to make a bid for the player this week.
Birmingham fans… Would you welcome Buxton at the heart of your defence?
