Birmingham City will be able to register summer signing Kristian Pedersen after talks with the EFL, meaning he can play against Norwich City in the Championship opener on Saturday.

The Blues' issues with FFP have been well-documented in the past few weeks and that prevented them from registering Pedersen, despite signing him for £2.2m from Union Berlin.

There was even speculation that he might move on a short-term loan until the West Midlands side got themselves in order.

However, the club confirmed on their website this evening that they have held talks with the EFL and have arranged a clear plan that will help them moving forward.

Firstly, they are able to register Pedersen and five more players, if required, whilst the market remains open.

However, any new arrivals must adhere to the rules set out in the talks, essentially meaning that they won't be allowed to bring in any players for significant fees.

Additionally, there will be further meetings and talks in the months to come, with Blues set to be punished for breaching FFP in the past three years.

The Verdict

This is a small bit of good news for Birmingham as at least their new signing will now be able to play.

Obviously, they still have major issues in the long-term and further talks and meetings will determine how it will impact them.

However, this gives them a bit of breathing space and will help Garry Monk ahead of the transfer deadline next week.
