According to Alan Nixon, Birmingham are chasing Derby County's Johnny Russell.

The Scotsman has made over 100 league appearances for the Rams since joining for less than £1m in the summer of 2013 from Dundee United, scoring 28 goals in all competitions. However just one of those goals has been in the 2016/17 campaign, coming in the 1-0 victory over Leeds in October.

Russell has become a fan favourite at Pride Park in the 4 seasons he's spent with the club, but over the last couple of months Rams fans feel that the winger's performances have dropped and that his form doesn't warrant a place on the team sheet. He has been left out of Derby's last two matches, the 1-0 loss at Leeds and the 2-1 FA Cup victory at West Brom.

Birmingham City have struggled since controversially sacking Gary Rowett, and new boss Gianfranco Zola is still awaiting his first win as Blues boss after 6 games in charge. So in order to turn things around at St. Andrews, he may want to bring in some players with Championship experience, like Johnny Russell.
